Many of us as gardeners tend to make mistakes without realizing its impact. If you are a beginner, it is crucial to know about the gardening basics so that you can be successful in the garden. You can grow many varieties of plants in the garden but if they are not maintained well they would not thrive.

Anyone can make mistakes, be it a beginner or an experienced gardener. It is important to learn from them and move forward to try out the things again differently. However, with a little research and knowledge you can avoid getting into tricky situations wherein you end up making mistakes.

·

Many of us tend to plant different plants, trees and shrubs in the wrong area. Location plays an important role in the success and survival of plants. Different plant species have different requirements and they should be planted accordingly. Some plants thrive in sun, some in shade, some in moist areas and some on dry land. Know their individual requirements and then make a wise decision.

·

Do not plant too close to the wall. To make the garden bed look dense, many of us make the mistake of growing plants near the walls right up to the end. The roots of the plants grown near walls can get destroyed as they would not get enough space to spread. Roots of bigger shrubs or trees can even destroy the wall when they mature and spread.

·

Knowing your zone is really important as it can help you to choose the right kind of plants for your garden. The temperature and climatic conditions are crucial to a plant’s survival. Some specific species can thrive well in warmer climates but might not survive in extremely cold winters so check your USDA hardy zone before planting.

·

Watering is good for the plants but over- watering can potentially damage them. Do not give them so much water that their roots start to rot. Over- watering can attract many diseases, pests and insects so avoid overdoing it.

·

Weeding is good for the plants growth and development but do not pull out the seedlings. During the initial stages of a plant growth it becomes a little difficult to identify the seedlings from nasty weeds. They might appear like weeds and you end up getting rid of them without realizing.

·

Overcrowding is another common mistake that many us make while planting perennials or other kind of plants and shrubs. Plants need space and proper air circulation. If they are planted too close then they will not be able to spread and grow properly.
