Who doesn’t love to watch the elegant and graceful little hummingbirds flying and buzzing around your home? Hummingbirds are small but yet graceful and elegant all at the same time. Hummingbirds only grow to about 4-6 inches tall and can range in a wide variety of colors with the standard being silver, red and green. Hummingbird nests are only about the size of the palm of your hand and often times smaller with their eggs which can be as small as penny. Hummingbirds look so fragile because they are so small but in all reality they are quite strong and sturdy due to their quickness. If you like hummingbirds then you need to plant a hummingbird vine around your home or in your garden and you will have hummingbirds flying and whizzing by all spring and summer long.

The Hummingbird vine can range in lengths with the average reaching lengths of up to 15 -20 feet. The hummingbird vine has small dark green leaves and a small 1 inch trumpetflower that sits out erect from the leaves which attracts hummingbirds because they thrive on the nectar. You would think that the little small trumpets would be quite a chore or battle for the hummingbird but in all reality it stands no match because of its long thin beak which can go straight into the center in no time.

The hummingbird vine grows well in partly shady spots and needs well drained soil or moist soil in order to thrive at its best. The hummingbird vine grows well up against something such as an arbor, archway or trellis. The hummingbird vine makes a great addition to any home or garden landscape because of its luscious ruby red or orange trumpets against the dark green foliage.
