Spleenwort Fern, also known as the Ebony Spleenwort Fern, is similar in appearance to the Christmas fern due to leaf and frond shape. This fern grows to a mature height roughly half that of the Christmas! They are evergreen, and will keep their brilliant emerald color throughout the winter. They are native to the eastern coast of North America, and very adaptable to various soils and climates. These are very good ferns for gardens as they can be managed very well. They can grow to be six to twelve inches tall and also six to twelve inches wide. They grow to full maturity in first year and are considered to be fast growers. They also love to be planted in full and partially shaded areas and thrive in moist and well drained soils. They create a beautiful and natural looking border for gardens and also look great planted to outline a sidewalk or driveway. These provides lots of bright and vibrant color when they are grown and they look great. These makes great additions to garden areas and can provide lots of color around cedar trees and other shaded areas where nothing seems to want to grow. These are also great to add to containers for porches or patios as long as their soils are kept moist and has a drainage to the containers.
