Red Twig Dogwood is a Flowering Plant and is native throughout northern and western North America from Alaska east to Newfoundland, south to Durango and Nuevo León in the west, and Illinois and as far east as Virginia. It can grow up to roughly 7 to 9 feet in height. When it’s matured the width stretches to roughly 5 to 10 feet also. Red Twig Dogwood is very similar to the Silky Dogwood in terms of planting conditions, just like the Silky Dogwood shrub it would fare well and be ideal planted near a downspout disconnected as it is very tolerant to Seasonal Flooding, so most Boggy and Wet Woodland areas would be best for a Red Twig Dogwood Shrub however it is adaptable to most soils but is very Intolerant to Drought and Restricted Water Conditions. Red Twig Dogwood is often used to stop riverbanks eroding away because its Root System provides Excellent Soil Retention. The Plateau Indians often ate the Berries it grew to cure Colds and to Slow Bleeding, It would be best to let the Wildlife engage in the consumption of these Berries. These are unique as the stems of these trees and shrubs are reddish in color as they grow. They look amazing when placed in a garden or natural area. These grow great in soils that are wet and always moist but well drained. They can be seen growing in wooded areas where lighting and soil conditions are good for them.
