I remember being a small child going out into the garden with my dad first thing in the morning before the sun started beating down and helping in pick fresh vegetables for us to sell or enjoy and seeing all these lovely small purple, blue flowers sprouting up everyone and asking him, “what are those,” he would reply, “Morning glory.” Morning Glory, I would think, they sure are pretty.
I would always go out and start picking them and of course get fussed at because I wasn’t helping in the garden instead of I was picking flowers, but I would get so mad because I would take them inside and place them into a bowl or vase of water and they would die in a matter of hours.
In time I soon learned that the Morning Glory vine wasn’t meant for inside use but only the sights and wonders of the outside world. Morning Glory vines can reach heights of up to 4-6 feet and brings about it a luscious dark, bright green leaf with a small 2-3 inch purple-blue flower that normally only opens first thing in the morning. The Morning Glory seems to thrive on that first thing in the morning sunlight and then it soon withers away as soon and quick as it opens.
Morning glory grows well in almost any type of climate and can tolerate hot, drought like climates. The Morning Glory works best growing up against an arbor or trellis but can grow along anything that it can get its little roots on and adhere. Once the Morning Glory gets a good adaptation it is hard to get rid of it. The Morning Glory makes a great addition almost anywhere you plant it.
