A green and healthy lawn is a must have for a home garden.  The green carpeted ground is ideal for children to play and spend quality time in the garden. However, to maintain the desired look you need to take proper care of the grass so that it thrives and enhances the beauty of your garden. A healthy lawn acts as an asset and contributes to the overall appearance of your property.

Some of the important things to keep in mind to ensure that you have a thriving lawn are—

Weed Control—Weed Control is an important aspect of lawn maintenance and care. Unnecessary weeds tend to grow along with the lawn grass and compete with them for nutrients. If you notice some of the weeds appearing on the lawn turf then you can remove them manually. Weedicides and herbicides are also available in the market to serve the purpose however, it is recommended not to use them in large quantities as they can cause damage to the lawn grass.  Mowing regularly can also help in smoothing out the dandelions that pop above the grass.

Watering—Under watering can seriously damage the entire garden as the grass tends to dry and eventually die if it does not receive adequate water. The lawn should be watered regularly to maintain a green and healthy lawn. You can use water hoses or even automatic sprinklers to serve the purpose.

Fertilizing—Fertilization can help in vigorous growth and faster germination. You can apply fertilizers once or twice every year for faster and thicker growth of grass. It is advisable to get a soil test done in the laboratory so that you know if soil lacks some nutrients. The deficiency can be treated with the application of nutrient rich fertilizers. Make sure not to over apply the fertilizers as they can burn and damage the grass.

Mowing—Mowing is probably the most crucial activity for lawn maintenance. You would obviously not want shabby growth of grass covering your garden and making it look messy. It is important to mow the lawn whenever the growth overtakes. Mowing should not be too deep and should be as high as possible. If you mow too deep then the roots of the grass can get weak and damaged. The mower blades should be sharp enough for mowing as dull blades will tear off the grass instead of cutting it.

These are some of the tips that can help in maintaining a healthy lawn in the home garden. You can grow different varieties of grass available in the nurseries to get a desired lawn.
