 Hydrangea shrubs are a species of plants that were originally native to regions of North and South America, South and East Asia. There are over 70 varieties of hydrangea shrubs that have become popular with gardeners and designers because of the large, abundant blooms that often flower from Spring through to late Fall; in many cases the flower heads of the hydrangea can grow to sizes of up to one foot in diameter and are a popular border and screening shrub. Most hydrangea's are hardy to temperatures well below freezing and can be grown in areas of partial Sun to shady areas of a yard that are often difficult to fill with other types of shrub or flower. The popularity of hydrangea's is also increased by the large variety of colors of the flower heads; many varieties of hydrangea will change color as the growing season progresses from white to colors including pink, purple and Lavander.

Hydrangea Paniculata grows 1-2 feet and is different from many other plants and is perceived to grow well in partial shade in addition to being in full sunlight. The soil type ideal for its growth is neutral or mildly acidic. If a individual lives in comparatively colder regions, he/she can play a great role in developing these plants in his/her nursery.  It is basically a shrub that grows to an average of 6 to 8 feet. The flowers for this shrub grow in clusters on these plants and are in the main cone shaped. The other varieties of these plants bring into being flowers in and around clusters. Blue hydrangea– Hydrangea Macrophylla

This shrub is immediately recognizable by its vivid deep blue round flower heads that bloom in late spring and continue to blossom until the fall. The flowers stand out above and peak out from under a dense rounded canopy of foliage of large oval shaped leaves.

Maintenance:

Depending on soil types the deep blue flowers may be lighter in color and occasionally even pink. If you are looking for the deeper shades of blue be sure the soil is acidic. A good rule of thumb to remember is: the more alkaline the soil the lighter the color of the flowers.

Hydrangea Macrophylla prefer fertile well-drained soils. They should be watered regularly in dry seasons and drought. They are best planted in full sun except in very hot summer environments.

This shrub should only be pruned immediately after flowering because it blooms on large buds from the previous season. Late pruning will remove many of these buds and result in a poor showing the following season.
