Praying Mantis: A Beneficial Insect

Posted by Tammy Sons on

Wednesday, March 16

Are you sick and tired of bugs? Well, a few you should actually be glad to see in your yard. Even some of the funniest looking ones. Praying mantis, who are definitely on the larger side for insects and look like they've just landed from Mars, are actually good for your garden.

They can cure your landscaping woes by eating a bellyful of aphids. Aphids, also known as plant lice, are a very destructive force in many gardens. You don't have to like the looks of the praying mantis, just don't kill it. Generally, they're doing more good than harm. And, they tend to bite bugs not people, no matter how big those pinchers look! Look for Zelkova, which is remarkably pest resistant, in our tree nursery.
