Plants That You Can Grow in Winter Season
Green plants provide scenic beauty that can suit any type of landscape. This winter if you are planning to redesign your garden and fill it with emerald greens then you can plant a range of wintergreen trees and shrubs.
Wintergreen plants have the capability of growing and remaining green in winter season unlike other plants that tend to die during extreme climatic conditions. There are many varieties of flowering plants, shrubs and trees that you can plant during winter—
Gaultheria procumbens (Checker berry) - This plant is found mostly in North America and Canada which is adaptable to the cold winters. It is a shrub which is evergreen and has white or pink colored flowers which generally bloom during summers. These are perennial plants and grow up to 10-15 centimeters in height. They are highly dense throughout summers and winters and have dark green foliage. Gautheria procumbens or checker berry are highly tolerant to drought and the soil requires a pH level of 4 – 6.5.
Azaleas - This is another evergreen plant which can be grown with Checker berry plants and they can accentuate the beauty of your garden during winter season. The flowers bloom during spring and are multi-colored. They have almost the same growing conditions as Checker berry plant. Azaleas grow in acidic soil which should be well drained and with the pH level of 4.5 – 6.0. They can provide a very good contrast to your checker berry plant with the amazing red, pink & white colors.
Bergenia - These are perennial plants as well and can be grown with Gaultheria Procumbens and Azaleas. They have flowers which are shaped like a cone and are generally in several pink shades. They can grow in most soils; however humus rich and moist soil is preferred. They grow in extreme temperatures ranging from -35 °F to 115 °F. They can be grown behind Checker berry plants as their flowers bloom during winters which means Bergenia would show its colorful effect when Checker berry plant would not have flowers.
These are a few plants which are available for sale at our exotic nursery. You can plant them in your garden to make it equally appealing in the winter season.
