How to Choose the Right Kind of Landscaping Plant

Posted by Tammy Sons on

Successful landscaping comes from proper plant selection. Appropriate plants when grown in the right spot can have a drastic effect on the entire garden. It can either transform the garden completely into a beautiful green abode or if not done properly it can ruin the entire look.

Selecting the right kind of plants depends on several factors that should be considered if you are aiming for a noticeably thriving garden. Some of the important things to keep in mind while purchasing plants for landscaping are—

Seasonal Interest

—Avoid planting such varieties in the garden that bloom at the same time. If you grow plants without taking their flowering period into consideration then during spring the garden will be in full bloom but afterwards all the plants will wither and die together. It is important to choose different varieties that bloom at different times of the year so that the garden remains lively all year long. There are several spring, summer, fall and winter flowering varieties that are available in the market. Many trees change color and wear a beautiful hue during fall season. You can consider growing such plants and trees that change colors as they look very interesting.

Height and Width

—It is important to have a basic knowledge of the height and width that a plant can reach. If you do not provide ample space and grow plants in the wrong area then they might not grow well. This will hamper the overall growth and development of plants. The plants and shrubs that can grow taller should be planted in the background so as to avoid them from overpowering the small plants.

Form and Texture

—Form and texture of the plants can help in achieving desired effect in the garden. Some plants grow in the form of vines, climbers and creepers. They should be planted in such an area where they can be trained if required to get the maximum results. Using plants that have different texture and shape of leaves is recommended to achieve a beautiful effect.
