It is at times really perplexing for a beginner to choose the right kind of plants for their home garden. There are endless varieties available that can serve different purposes and enhance the beauty of your landscape.

There are so many different plants that can blend in well and make your garden appealing. Some of the many common varieties that can be planted in home gardens are—

Flowering Plants

—Small flowering plants look great and add color to the garden. Many people prefer specific varieties of flowering plants like Roses, Tulips, Iris, Lilies, Daffodils, Chrysanthemums, Marigold, Daisies, etc. All these are small flowering plants that are ideal for garden beds.

Ornamental Grasses

—Ornamental grasses add movement, height and texture to the landscape. Their vertical presence is noteworthy and they complement the other plants if planted in an appropriate manner. Some common ornamental grasses for home gardens are Blue grama, Blue fescue, Sand love grass, Blue Oat grass, Morning star sedge, Velvet grass, Silver grass and Flame grass.

Ground covers

—Ground cover plants are ideal for shady areas or bare patches. They can also be planted in flower beds. Creeping Myrtle, Wild Ginger, Honeysuckle, Hostas, Sweet woodruff and English Ivy are common groundcover plants.

Vines and Climbers

—Climbers and vines can be trained on railings or metal frames. Morning Glory, Virginia creeper, Sweet peas, Clematis and Periwinkle are some amazing varieties that can transform your garden.

Fern Plants

—Fern plants add different hues of green to the garden. Their texture and beauty looks remarkable against the other flowering plants. Ferns can be grown as border plants and the larger ones can be grown at the back of flower beds. Some common fern plants that are grown for ornamental purposes are Maidenhair fern, Ostrich fern, Christmas fern, Deer fern, Painted fern and Cinnamon fern.
