The new and distinct variety of red Flowering Dogwood tree was discovered during the Spring of 1980. It is most noticeable due to its vivid pink bracts especially in a warmer temperate. There is a common misnomer that the flower is actually the bright pink leaves or petals if you will. The pink leaves are in actuality called bracts (small colorful leaves that form around the base of the flower.) The flowers itself are the miniature yellow blooms in the center of the pink bracts.
