 The new and distinct variety of red Flowering Dogwood tree was discovered during the Spring of 1980. It is most noticeable due to its vivid pink bracts especially in a warmer temperate. There is a common misnomer that the flower is actually the bright pink leaves or petals if you will. The pink leaves are in actuality called bracts (small colorful leaves that form around the base of the flower.) The flowers itself are the miniature yellow blooms in the center of the pink bracts.

Dogwoods are usually found in the shrub border to add color or as a specimen in the lawn. It can also be grown as an under story tree underneath of other large trees. They prefer a rich deep well-drained soil. These plants are not recommended for heavy wet soils. The fruits that are produced are also a favorite of many birds as well as squirrels rabbits and raccoons. They can also serve as butterfly nectar sources and as hosts for butterfly larvae.

    This tree is nice and ill probalbbly gonna be getting more. I have the plants set up as a small border along my walkway. I would recommend this to anyone.
