Climbing Hempvine - Mikania scandens
Climbing Hempvine is a plant that is native to the Eastern and Central United States but has also been found in sections of Canada and Mexico. It is also known as Mikania Scandens and is a flowering plant of the family Asteraceae. This plant can be as long as fifteen feet or more in the right growing conditions and environment. It prefers to grow in the shade of the landscape or garden and will enjoy being planted in soils that are clay like and loamy in their compositions. Beginning in June and lasting through the month of August, this plant will have tiny flowers that grow in clusters along the plant. The blooms can vary in color from purples and pinks to a white coloration. These flowers are only about half of a centimeter in size. The leaves grow opposite the flowers and are either triangular in shape or can be in the shape of heart. It is truly a great vine to have in the garden and will look amazing when given the proper growing conditions. It will become a favorite and will look very natural in its appearance in the landscape.
