More and more cities are changing their laws to make having a few backyard chickens legal. As gardeners are starting to want fresh eggs alongside their fresh fruits and vegetables, this really just makes sense. Some coops are even being designed to blend in with the scenery so as not to disturb neighbors or break covenants.

While the old fashioned chicken coop was not worried about such things and was purely practical, new ones are being designed with a modern aesthetic in mind. Whichever way you go, growing your own eggs is finally becoming an option for some city dwellers. Check out your own local ordinances to discover what's allowed where you live. If a wild bird nesting in your tree is more the sort of eggs you'd prefer, look for fragrant sumac among ourballed trees. It provides a safe and secure nesting haven for a variety of birds.
