Bringing Withered Plants Back To Life

Insufficient water, lack of sunlight and poor soil are some of the conditions that can take a serious toll on plants, so much so that the plants can eventually die. Many of us face this problem in the garden and we do not really know what to do. Most of the times, we assume that the plants cannot be revived and we leave them without even trying. However, if proper measures are taken then the plants can indeed be brought back to life and their glory can be restored.

Before taking any measures, it is crucial to understand the problems that can be causing the plant to behave abnormally. Unhealthy, weak or diseased plants generally show signs of stunted growth. Other indicators are withered leaves, leaf rot, discoloration, etc. There could be many reasons for this but the common ones include drought, excess watering, lack of sunlight and poor soil.

Once you know the reason, it is easier to take care of the plants. If your plant is placed in a spot that does not receive any sunlight then moving it to a sunnier location can revive the plant as most of the plants need light to manufacture their food.

Insufficient watering can lead to dead and withered leaves so water the plant thoroughly. It is advisable to remove the dead and decayed leaves and water it regularly. This way the plant generally springs back to life in a few days. Poor soil can also be the reason for withered leaves. Get the soil checked in a laboratory and add essential nutrients, if the soil lacks any.

However, if water, poor soil and sunlight are not the issues that may be causing harm to your plant then you will have to investigate further. Plants that are grown in smaller pots and are not transplanted tend to become container bound. Their roots do not get enough space to spread and they coil inside the pot. It is advisable to transplant such plants to bigger pots so that they can continue to grow freely. While transplanting, make sure that you remove the entire plant carefully without causing any major harm to the roots. Loosen the soil inside by rolling the container gently on ground so that the plant comes out without much difficulty.

These are the major issues that can cause withered leaves and can damage the entire plant. Proper care and maintenance can help solve most of the issues. It is also recommended to purchase best quality plants for your garden as they have better chances of growth and survival. Invest in native plants because they are more adaptable to the local conditions and they are less susceptible to diseases and pests. Native plants and wildflowers are also quite drought tolerant so you do not have to worry a lot about their care and maintenance.
