Black Willow seedlings, Latin name Salix Nigra. Grows the best in USDA zones 3-9. It is a slow growing tree at only twenty-four inches per year. At full maturity which is not until around 30 years, it can grow up to forty feet tall. It prefers to grow in sunny areas or full sun. The soils need to be moist or well-drained. Grow in areas that are lower and collect water. Often when these trees are grown in wetland areas or bodies of water one can see damage from beaver because they love the nutrients that these trees can provide.
