The fact that bare root plants are not sold with soil around the roots can sometimes make them vulnerable to damage. It is important to take precautions and to plant them properly so that they thrive.

If proper and care and maintenance is not provided to the plants then they will have lesser chances of survival. However, it is not so difficult to grow plants and trees with the bare root stock. With a few tips and techniques you can easily grow many varieties of plants and trees in your garden.

Some of the key things that can help you to achieve success with the bare root plants are—

·

Always purchase good quality and healthy plants for your garden. There is not point spending money on bare root stock that is not worth it. Healthy plants will grow vigorously without getting damaged. It is advisable to buy plants from a renowned certified nursery as they guarantee best quality plants.

·

Bare root plants should be planted as soon as possible. In nurseries, they are stored in frozen conditions so that they remain dormant. It is advisable to plant them on the same day when they are delivered. This increases their chances of survival and they will start growing when the roots get moisture.

·

The bare root plants should be unpacked with care so that no damage is caused to the branches or roots.

·

Once you’ve unpacked the plants, thoroughly inspect the roots, stems or branches. Remove any damaged branches or roots but make sure not to prune the main root or the tap root as it can harm the plant.

·

It is advisable to soak the roots in water for some hours before planting. This will reduce the chances of possible shock due to sudden changes and will give the plant a better start.

·

For planting, dig the hole big enough to accommodate the entire root system properly. This will help the plant to spread easily.

·

Once the bare root has been planted, water the area thoroughly so that the moisture triggers growth. Once the plant has been established do not let it dry out and water it on regular basis.

·

Apply mulch around the plant after a few days so that the weeds do not grow in the area.

These are some of the tips that can help in getting better results. There are a wide variety of plants and trees available in the form of bare root stock that can easily be planted in home gardens.
