The Black Gum tree has some striking features like beautiful foliage. In the spring, the tree unfurls glossy green leaves that transition into vibrant shades of red, orange, and purple during the fall season. This stunning color change provides a visually captivating display of any landscape.
Native to eastern North America, the black gum tree is found along the coastal Northeastern United States. You can find it as far south as Florida and Texas. It is also native to southern Ontario. With its broad range and beautiful appearance, it is a popular addition to many home gardens and landscape designs.
This Perennial Has Many Names
It has developed many names over time. There are other species of it, known as swamp type and yellow type, so the common names are better names for distinguishing this specific species.
What It Looks Like
It has a lovely appearance and beautiful fall colors. It is a medium-height tree with alligator-like bark. While it might be a large tree, it won't destroy your sidewalks and driveway. The roots grow fairly deep into the ground, so you don't have to worry about them messing up your pavement.
TN Nursery Offers Long-Lasting Beauty
Once you plant yours, you can enjoy its beauty for the rest of your life. These trees can live for more than 70 years if they are cared for properly. After you plant your tree, you can enjoy many years of family memories. When it gets large enough, the tree's beautiful fall leaves mean that it is a stunning spot for a family picnic in autumn.
Why Black Gum Is a Favorite Tree
In spring, it has gorgeous reddish-pink growth. As summer rolls around, the leaves turn dark green. While the leaves are lovely in spring and summer, they really stand out in autumn. As fall rolls around, the leaves turn dark red or purple.
It grows well in wet areas and can also grow in dry areas. While it's known for its beauty, it is difficult to find in plant nurseries. If you are lucky enough to get one of these beautiful trees, take your time to enjoy it.
So far, my black Gumtree is a 3 foot stick. I just planted it yesterday. I’m watching it every single day. Five star so far.

So far, so good.
The trees I ordered came without delay once shipped. They are the size I expected and were packaged well. One tree does have two tops; will have to decide what to prune next spring when the tree begins to bud.
